Advances in our understanding of cognitive science and neurology make it increasingly clear that the idea of ourselves as beings who will by way of a conscious engagement with the world is just an afterthought, that most of the cognitive process occurs unconsciously. To my mind, this new picture of human awareness dovetails almost perfectly with that of Advaita Vedanta and most of the other nondual ideologies. There really isn't any "us" here outside of the embodied neurological constructs.
